FACIAL SURGERY

Here you will find all the information about rhinoplasty / nose cosmetic surgery.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures, although it is also one of the most complex. The type of surgery performed depends on the changes one is seeking. The anatomical differences of the human nose are innumerable.

You may feel that your nose is too big, small, wide, narrow, pointed, droopy, protruding, or just unattractive.

Some people choose to undergo rhinoplasty to change or minimize their ethnic origin; others may have suffered an injury to their nose or need a revision rhinoplasty to correct a less aesthetic result done by another surgeon.

It is extremely important that an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon makes the necessary decisions and judgment to provide the excellent results that one expects and demands. Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci’s consistent results in aesthetic nose surgery are due to his extensive experience of over 20 years, his dedication, and continuous learning, which make him one of the best nose surgeons in Mexico. Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci’s techniques for rhinoplasty are, literally, “cutting-edge,” whether it be primary or corrective nasal surgery.

Functional Rhinoplasty.

It is performed on individuals with breathing problems, due to deviation of the nasal septum, deformities of the nasal bones, or allergies. Correcting these issues can also improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose.

Rhinoplasty for aesthetic purposes.

Patients whose main goal is to improve the aesthetic shape of their nose. Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci is a qualified surgeon and knowledgeable about the anatomy of the nose, which ensures that the surgery will not sacrifice nasal breathing.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Patients who have had a previous rhinoplasty and have subsequent breathing problems or desire further changes to the appearance of the nose. These cases are usually considerably more difficult, and it is necessary to consult with a specialist in rhinoplasty.

Understanding Rhinoplasty Surgery

Half a million people who want to improve the appearance of their nose consult a surgeon every year. Some people are not satisfied with the nose they have, while others are not happy with how aging has altered their nose. Other people may need a nose surgery to improve their breathing. But one thing is clear: the size and shape of the nose have a significant aesthetic impact on a person. As the nose is the most prominent feature of the face, a slight modification can significantly improve its appearance.

If you have wondered how nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, could improve your appearance, self-confidence, or health, what you need to know is how rhinoplasty is performed and what you can expect.

A successful nasal aesthetic surgery is achieved when the patient and the surgeon have a good relationship. Trust is built during the first consultation in the office, prior to the surgery, when it is based on realistic expectations and demanding medical experience. Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci can answer specific questions about your particular needs.

Is Rhinoplasty for you?

Like any other facial cosmetic surgery, it is necessary to be in good health and have realistic expectations for a successful rhinoplasty. The goal of rhinoplasty is to improve the nose so that it looks better with the rest of the face.

La piel, age, and ethnic origin are important factors to discuss with the surgeon before surgery. It should be noted that young patients should have completed their growth before making changes to the shape of the nose, which typically occurs around the age of fifteen or sixteen. Exceptions are cases where breathing is severely damaged.

Before deciding on rhinoplasty, ask Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci if you are a candidate for additional surgery that might enhance the appearance of your face. Some patients may require, along with rhinoplasty, a chin augmentation to achieve better facial balance.

Making the Decision for Rhinoplasty

If you wish to undergo surgery for aesthetic or functional reasons, it is of utmost importance to choose a qualified surgeon. Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci is trained both in ear, nose, and throat diseases as well as in aesthetic nose surgery, and has the highest level of training and experience in this area. The Doctor will examine the nose inside and out to evaluate what to expect from the rhinoplasty. Furthermore, he will discuss factors that may affect the surgery outcome, such as skin type, ethnic background, age, degree of deformity, and the level of functioning of the nasal structures.

You will be provided with a complete explanation of the surgeon’s expectations and the risks involved in the surgery. After a joint decision between you and Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci to proceed with a rhinoplasty, the Doctor will take photographs and discuss the available options with you. You will be explained how it is possible to sculpt the nasal structures, including bone and cartilage, to reshape the nose.
Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci will tell you everything you need to know about the anesthesia, the operating room, and the costs of the procedure, after reviewing your medical history.

What to expect after the surgery?

After the surgery, a splint is placed to protect the nose and keep the structures stable for a few days. Instead of Vaseline gauze packing, a silicone prosthesis is placed to allow breathing and is removed between the third and fifth day. Your face will be swollen, especially on the first day after surgery. You may require medication to relieve pain. It is recommended to avoid blowing your nose for seven days after surgery. In the days following the surgery, you may experience swelling and bruising in the area around your eyelids. Cold compresses can often reduce the appearance of bruising. Some sutures are absorbable and do not require removal. Generally, the nasal tape and splint are removed between six and seven days after surgery.

Following the doctor’s instructions is crucial, especially the instructions to keep the head elevated for a certain amount of time after the surgery. Some activities should be avoided during the weeks following the procedure, such as sun exposure, physical exertion, and the risk of injury. If you wear glasses, special measures should be taken to ensure that the lenses do not rest on the nose. Sometimes a special tape (Micropore) and other devices are used to allow the use of glasses.

Post-operative appointments are essential for this procedure to monitor the recovery process. Certainly, any abnormality should be reported to your doctor immediately. It is important that you keep your follow-up appointments.

Understanding Rhinoplasty Surgery

Correct, “Rhinoplasty” literally means shaping the nose. To achieve this, small incisions are made through which the skin of the nose is separated from its underlying support system: bone and cartilage. Most incisions are made on the nose, where they are invisible. In some cases, a virtually imperceptible incision is made in the skin between the nostrils. Next, certain bone and cartilage structures are changed or rearranged to give the desired shape to the nose. For example, if the tip of the nose is excessively large, the surgeon may sculpt the cartilage in this area to decrease its size. The angle of the nose can be changed to improve appearance or to correct a problem.

After the new framework is placed, the skin is covered and the incisions are closed. A splint is placed on the outside of the nose to help maintain the new shape while it heals. Soft silicone or temporary absorbable material can be used in the nose to keep the nasal septum in place. The risk factors associated with rhinoplasty are usually minor, and Dr. Gonzalo Jiménez Orci will discuss these with you before the surgery.
