Anti-snoring surgery

Here you will find all the information about Anti-Snoring surgery.

WHAT IS ANTI-SNORING SURGERY?

There are various surgical interventions for snoring, each with its own risks and benefits.
A popular option is surgery to insert a device called a palatal implant. This implant helps keep the airways open by holding the palate in place. Another possibility is to undergo a surgery to remove excess tissue from the palate or throat. This procedure is called UPPP (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty). Surgery is more effective than an implant, but it has more risks.
Some patients also choose to undergo a surgical intervention to stretch the muscles surrounding the airways, called a tracheotomy. While this surgery is very effective, it is also the most invasive and carries a higher risk of complications.
CAUSES
The causes of snoring surgery are usually associated with the structure of the nose and throat. For example, a deviated septum can disrupt the airflow and cause snoring. Other possible causes include enlarged tonsils or adenoids, or excess tissue in the throat.
TREATMENTS
Most people who snore do not require surgery. However, if anti-snoring surgery is recommended, there are some options to consider. One option is a surgical intervention called uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), which involves removing excess tissue from the throat. Another possibility is a procedure called laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP), which uses a laser to remove excess tissue from the throat.
DIAGNOSIS
The following are the diagnoses that can be established with anti-snoring surgery:
1. Obstructive sleep apnea.
2. Nasal obstruction.
3. Base of tongue obstruction.
4. Palatal flutter.
